Gilded wood
Lifting gold leaf with soft brushes
Applying gold leaf onto wood cube prepared with japan gold size.
Originally a cube designed to illustrate the obvious but visually interesting concept of how the timber we use relates to a tree, some adjacent experiment with gold leaf on a picture frame prompted the idea of gilding the cubes bark.
Gold size is applied by brush, left to become tacky, and the leaf applied using soft sable brushes.
