Improving Your Prospects through Online Profiles debate at Enterprise Week

This forum aims to encourage and continue the lively and constructive debate and presentations which took place at LCC on 15/11/2012 part of UALs enterprise week, see more about this event here -

Some of the key takeaway points based on responses from the students in the audience, we've created the following as forum topics :

Better interaction with you, engage online visitors

How to build your own online spaces and networks

Protecting personal data and privacy online

Presenting your professional profile online is becoming increasingly important. What is the best way to develop your online professional identity? Do we improve or hinder our career prospects by being online? The panel of speakers (below) led a discussion and debate and shared their experiences of creating online identities, using social media and specialist networks, and being a digital citizen.

Don’t be a tweet, you might regret it

This recent article in UALs paper is very relevant to the debate we are having above, its great to see these issues being discussed here in our student run newspaper:

"When recruiting for a new job, companies usually use credit checks to find out about a potential employee’s background.

However, social media has become an effective new tool to get to know a prospective member of staff on a personal level.

It has become common knowledge that employers are checking potential employee’s social networking pages to decide whether or not they make for suitable candidates for the company – meaning that one inappropriate status update or photo could mean the difference between success and failure."
